City Manager Jay Rogers, City Finance Director Eileen Layman, Fairmont City Council members and city department heads met Tuesday for a work session regarding the city’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget.
Rogers said that the proposed budget would include a general fund of about $13.8 million.
Rogers also said that this is the first time in his tenure as city manager that the budget includes a contingency line item.
“There are a couple ways to look at that,” Rogers said. “The contingency is there to redirect funds into other areas if the council so deems to do that, and it’s also a nice cushion to use for unexpected expenditures that we may face in 2014 that we are not able to plan or budget for.”
