FAIRMONT —
The excitement in the air was palpable Thursday night at the long-awaited game between the Fairmont State University Falcons and University of Charleston Golden Eagles.
University officials were pushing to be the first West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school this year with a crowd exceeding 3,000, The gymnasium was packed tight in the lower level, with seats only available in the upper section.
The student seating in particular was the most full observers had seen all season, with fans clad in white jumping to their feet when the Falcons scored.
Austin Tingler, a student and member of fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon, said that it was a fantastic crowd, the kind they’d like to see at every home game.

Noteworthy Sweets pepperoni rolls first in professional bake-off

Friday saw the annual Three Rivers Festival Professional Pepperoni Roll Bake-Off, with nine area bakeries competing to take home a trophy for their unique offerings. -

Main Street Fairmont is kicking off a weekly artisan market at 10 a.m. today at Veterans’ Square Plaza to highlight local artists and provide another event to revitalize Downtown Fairmont.

A Monongalia County man wanted in a three-city armed robbery spree that included Fairmont was arrested in Bridgeport Friday on three counts of first-degree robbery, said Alex Neville, supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia.

Three Rivers Festival features variety of entertainment
The 34th annual West Virginia Three Rivers Festival started in fine form Thursday night with a grand feature parade through downtown Fairmont, ending at Palatine Park with opening ceremonies.
The parade launches the annual festival, which draws many to the city’s Palatine Park for fun-filled activities for the young and the young at heart. -
