Treasurer Perdue: State has kept ‘financial house in order’

FAIRMONT — “Yes, spring is around the corner, and so is the rebirth of West Virginia’s economy,” State Treasurer John Perdue said during First Exchange Bank’s 15th Annual Groundhog Day Breakfast.

More than 200 people from the community packed Westchester Village in Fairmont Tuesday morning for the free event, which First Exchange Bank started in 1996. Those attending enjoyed a traditional breakfast while Perdue, the guest speaker, provided his thoughts for 2010.

Although the groundhog may predict the weather, the hard times in the state and nation won’t be over in six weeks, Perdue said. But West Virginia is better off than many other states because it has taken action.
