Running a business is a lot of hard work, and a lot of small businesses don’t make it because of the difficulty.
But when you find something you love and you stick with it, the reward is a lifetime of memories.
For Nick Demus, longtime owner and operator of the Demus Market, which closed in 2009 after 55 years in business, in Worthington, the community and the people were everything.
“It was a lot of work in the store business,” he said, “but if you like people, you’ll do all right.”
He opened the store with his sister Nellie back in 1954, at just 27 years old. Nellie, his older sister, never married, and he helped her go into business at the request of his father and has never looked back.
