FAIRMONT —
School spirit can enhance a positive school climate, and it’s what West Fairmont Middle School is striving for this week with a number of activities planned.
Red Ribbon Week is a way to promote school spirit throughout Marion County Schools, and according to Marion County’s Board of Education calendar, East Dale Elementary, White Hall Elementary and East Fairmont Junior High School also have specific events planned.
Outside of school hours, EFJHS students will wear anti-bullying T-shirts to the football game Wednesday. Shirts will read “Bee a Buddy, not a Bully” to showcase the school’s individual theme toward spirit week. White Hall Elementary will have a hat and crazy sock day today and a favorite team shirt day Wednesday. East Dale’s “stringer store” will be open throughout the week.
“It’s to promote school spirit and pride in the school, to build a culture, a positive culture,” WFMS principal Lisa Lister said.
To jump-start the activities Wednesday, a representative from the Family Resource Network will be handing out red ribbons during both lunch periods at WFMS. Students can also participate in “Hands Across America” by donating $1. Funding will benefit the United Way. Throughout the week, the school will be collecting food donations. WFMS wants to focus on a different project that is dedicated to service each week.
