County focuses on security, savings

Additional deputies to be hired; 16 cells of jail will be utilized

FAIRMONT — A budget revision from Sheriff Joe Carpenter will serve as the key for saving the county a lot of time, money and effort, said Marion County Commissioner Randy Elliott.

Approval of this budget revision in the amount of $173,447.82 will allow for the hire of two additional deputies in the holding and transport center at the old jail as well as two additional deputies to work courthouse security.

Of the total amount, $86,724 will go into the general fund and Carpenter’s law-enforcement budget, while the other half has already been allocated and will be shifted around in the Coal Severance jail budget, according to county administrator Kris Cinalli.
