FAIRMONT —
The former mayor of Grant Town was one of 20 persons named in indictments returned Wednesday by a Marion County grand jury in Judge David R. Janes’ courtroom.
Robert Dale Riggs Jr., 47, of 101 View St. Extension, Grant Town, was indicted on one count of felony embezzlement, four counts of forgery and four counts of uttering.
Riggs was arrested in November 2011 by West Virginia State Police. According to the criminal complaint filed in Marion County Magistrate Court, he allegedly signed four checks totalling $9,310 written on the Grant Town Emergency Medical Service account. As president of the town’s VFD, he had the authority to issue checks on the account.
