Water plant ready to serve ‘for years to come’

FAIRMONT — Members of the Fairmont City Council met informally Tuesday to tour the newly refurbished water plant.

Members of council met with workers from the plant and water board to learn about the improvements at the plant. The Corrective Action Plan has been under construction at the plant since January 2010.

Construction was “substantially complete” on May 26. David Sago, utilities manager for the City of Fairmont, said completion will be reached on July 13, with the final inspections being performed the following week.

In February 2007, two significant water emergencies occurred when the lack of a pretreatment system at the plant left many customers with little to no water pressure and sparked boil-water advisories for days at a time.
