FAIRMONT —
Eleven years ago, Bobbie Doerfler had her annual mammogram at her doctor’s office. The machine did its job, detecting lumps in both of her breasts.
After a follow-up biopsy at Fairmont General Hospital, Doerfler was diagnosed with cancer and successfully treated with lumpectomies and radiation.
Now she wants to alert others to the importance of early detection,
“I talked both of my daughters and my sister into getting their mammograms,” she said.
And on Friday, Doerfler shared her story at the Woman’s Club of Fairmont as part of the official kick-off to the campaign to raise $500,000 so Fairmont General Hospital can buy a new, updated digital mammography unit.
