FAIRMONT —
One tool that gives the Marion County Sheriff’s Department an advantage when it comes to searching property is Tubbs, a Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix that is trained in drugs and tracking.
Deputy Chris Gearde is Tubbs’ partner at the department and has been for the past three years.
“He was a year old when I got him,” Gearde said.
He said Tubbs is trained to search for drugs and tracking and helps the department tremendously.
Gearde works the day shift at the department and works Tuesday through Saturday, eight hours a day.
The two start their day at home.
“I load him in (the car), then we come in to the office,” Gearde said. “A lot of times we’ll go to school bus stops in the morning in different areas in the county and make sure the kids are safe.”
