‘Support Our Shelter’ fundraiser under way

Humane society expenses significant

“It’s always a struggle,” said humane society president Don Downs. “We just go day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month because we don’t have that consistent funding source that we can count on at this point.”

Downs said that the shelter costs, on average, between $15,000 and $20,000 a month to keep operational. It sounds like a lot of money, but it’s difficult to cut back.
