Humane society receives $10,000

Spay-and-neuter program boosted

FAIRMONT — The Marion County Humane Society recently received a grant from anonymous benefactors in the amount of $10,000 for its spay-and-neuter program.

Shelter president Don Downs said that the humane society is very excited about this donation.

“The life blood of the humane society is donations and money out of grants,” he said. “We’re very appreciative of the people who did this.”

According to Downs, the money came from a foundation started by a couple now living in North Carolina, but who grew up in Fairmont and have “generational ties to Marion County.”

They wished to remain anonymous, but he said that they are hopeful that others will follow in their footsteps.
