FAIRMONT —
West Virginia State Police have made an arrest following an investigation into charges of embezzlement in a local religious group.
Cherie Coogle, 40, and Chad Coogle, both of Fairmont, were arrested Thursday and charged with embezzlement of the North Central West Virginia Emmaus Community. The Emmaus Community is a national group that organizes spring and fall Christian retreats for men, women and youth.
According to criminal complaints, representatives of the NCWV Emmaus Community filed a complaint with state police in December alleging that “several unauthorized purchases and cash withdrawals in Marion and Taylor County” had been made on the organization’s debit card.
