FAIRMONT —
Residents woke up Wednesday to icy conditions due to freezing rain from Winter Storm Euclid, which made roads slick and hazardous.
It also prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for Marion County that will stay in effect until this morning.
Jeff Findo, dispatcher for the Division of Highways at the Marion County headquarters, said he sent his cinder trucks out on the roads Wednesday in an effort to make the roads safe.
“We have trucks from Fairmont to Mannington,” he said.
Findo said crews will be working 24-hour shifts to make sure roads are clear.
“They’re from 7 a.m. to 7 a.m.,” he said. “We’ll have all of our trucks on the road.”
Fairmont’s temperatures hovered around 34 degrees Wednesday morning with a wintry mix of rain, snow and sleet. The snow and sleet began to get heavier around 11:30 a.m., and between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. eight traffic accidents were reported to Marion County Central Communications.
