Over the past several months, vandalism has broken out in Hough Park in Mannington, costing thousands of dollars in repair.
Christina Dunigan, member of the Park Board, said they have noticed a lot of vandalism at the park in numerous places. She said people have broken some of the cinder block walls of pavilions and have thrown the blocks into the nearby river. People have also been stealing light bulbs, breaking light bulbs, carving into the picnic tables, breaking the picnic tables, breaking the swings. destroying the chimneys and destroying the bathrooms.
Dunigan said believes it’s teenagers that are doing the destruction.
“They don’t have anything better to do,” she said.
Hough Park was built in 1939. The Hough family sold the park to the residents of the city. The city now owns it, but no tax dollars go into the park.
