‘A childish act’

Theft of road signs could lead to ‘devastating consequences’

FAIRMONT — There is something missing all up and down the Swisher Hill area.

Those helpful little green road signs ... the ones that tell you whether you’re on Mods Run Road or Mahans Run Road ... have been stolen.

Street and road signs started disappearing about five years ago when new signs were being put up, said Chris McIntire, director of Marion County Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

“It was every few months, not a major thing. It was to be expected. But here in the past few months, it’s been 10-12 missing in one night.”

For example, just on Oct. 5 alone, 10 signs were reported stolen between 9 and 9:30 a.m. in Worthington and Fairmont.
