FAIRMONT — The former mayor of Grant Town pleaded not guilty to nine felony counts in his arraignment Thursday in Marion Circuit Court Division II before Judge David Janes.
Robert Dale Riggs Jr., 41, of 101 View St., Grant Town, had been indicted by a Marion County grand jury earlier this month on one count of felony embezzlement, four counts of forgery and four counts of uttering.
He allegedly forged and cashed four checks totalling $9,310 on a bank account of the Grant Town Volunteer Fire Department, of which he was president at the time.
Represented by attorney Fran Whiteman, Riggs is set to go to trial Wednesday, Nov. 28, in front of Judge Janes.
