Longstreth: We work for the people

FAIRMONT — It’s a familiar and satisfying position for Linda Longstreth being a Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates. She has been in office, representing Marion County since 2005 and is a candidate this year for District 50.

Delegate Longstreth is originally from Manning-ton. She attended Fairmont State University, earning her degree in health education. She continued her education at West Virginia University by getting her master’s degree in health and safety.

Helping others has always been in Longstreth’s background. She served in the United States Army Reserves in 1981 as a staff sergeant and is a retired educator and administrator.

With a want to help people and an interest in government, Longstreth ran for house in November 2004.

“I found it very rewarding in many ways.”

Her biggest reward is fixing roads and bringing money back to the county to where it can help.

“We have to take care of the state and county roads,” Longstreth said. “That’s what we look at every year — what can we do with the money, we look for ways to put money into the roads.”

Other concerns Longstreth has are conserving and protecting the state and county’s water and employment.

“Our water is a great concern around the state and Marion County,” she said “Keeping jobs here in West Vigrinia is important, and it is one of our issues keeping our residents employed.”

With about eight years at the position, Delegate Longstreth has experience and along those years she has accomplished many things — but a few stick out more than others.
