Maloney: Make it easier to build, grow businesses in state

FAIRMONT — Bill Maloney happened to be watching the news when he heard about miners trapped in Chile underground.

As co-founder and executive at North American Drillers, North American Pump and Supply Co. and Shaft Drillers International, he believed that he could lend his assistance to the rescue effort. What was expected to take months took days, and it was the first time that people outside of Morgantown became familiar with the Maloney name.

And then came the 2011 special gubernatorial election, when Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin narrowly defeated the Morgantown businessman.

When asked why he chose to run against Tomblin again after a little more than a year since the defeat, Maloney says there are things wrong in the state of West Virginia that cannot be fixed without a strong sense of business and the elimination of cronyism and corruption.
