FAIRMONT —
There is little new information on the “road rage” shooting that injured two people Friday night, said Marion County Sheriff Joe Carpenter.
Carpenter said the victims have been identified as brother and sister Anthony Delligatti, 18, and Amanda Delligatti, 21. They received minimal injuries, and were treated and released by EMS on scene.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Friday. Initial reports indicated the shooting occurred near the Interstate 79 weigh station near mile marker 137.
“But we believe it was closer to the downtown exit near Route 310 on the four lanes,” Carpenter said.
The Delligattis were driving a red Mercury Tracer and the shooter was driving reportedly a gold or tan passenger vehicle, described by some news reports as a Chrysler Sebring.
According to some reports, the shooter followed the Delligattis before pulling up to the passenger side of the vehicle, showing a handgun and firing one round.
The victims pulled off I-79 at the East Park Avenue exit, stopping at the McDonald’s on Speedway Avenue.
“We don’t know how this started,” Carpenter said. “We think it escalated from road rage.
“We believe there may have been words or actions that were exchanged on the interstate. What we have so far is the other vehicle came from behind them. Words were exchanged through the windows about one another’s driving.
“As far as we know, they do not know each other.”
