Churches, emergency agencies to meet

Monday’s public gathering to develop strategies to assist in disaster recovery

FAIRMONT — What role should churches play in long-term disaster relief?

Representatives of members of the Greater Fairmont Council of Churches will meet with those from emergency agencies at 1 p.m. Monday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 300 Gaston Ave.

The meeting is also open to the general public.

“This meeting will be to see how best the faith community can partner with 911, emergency groups, social service agencies and other concerned groups, the National Guard and the Red Cross,” said the Rev. D.D. Meighen, moderator of the council.

“We will talk about ideas and develop some strategies so that people can have a role when disasters occur.”
