FSHS students dismissed early after gas line punctured; school will be held today

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior High School students were dismissed early Wednesday after a piece of construction equipment hit a gas line.

The gas line has been repaired and students are back in the building today for a full day of school, principal Chad Norman said.

He said contractors have been on site for more than 20 months working on renovations to Fairmont Senior, and the school is now in the last month of that process. The entire building is undergoing a thorough overhaul, including upgrades to the windows, electrical work, plumbing and much more.

Beau Henderson, project manager for City Construction, which is the company doing the renovations, explained that a gas line was unintentionally punctured on Wednesday morning while workers were trying to excavate a large tree stump out of the back drive of the school.
