FAIRMONT —
Some call it a silent epidemic.
Like the rest of the nation, Marion County struggles with a teen drug problem and, more insidiously, a teen suicide problem.
And those who have been affected by it aren’t going to stand by and watch it happen to others.
A coalition of concerned parents, first responders and organizations joined together to put on a Suicide Awareness and Prevention event Saturday afternoon, with activities for families and speakers to remind kids that their community really cares about them.
Event organizer Tricia Kyer said the loss of her 19-year-old son, Sonny Blosser, last year inspired her to help prevent other kids from going through the same decision and parents from having to experience the same loss.
