The Marion County Board of Education and superintendent discussed what they’d like to see happen this school year during a special session Tuesday night.
The five board members and Superintendent of Schools Gary Price met at the Central Office of Marion County Schools to talk about goals involving instruction, facilities, technology, administration and policy for 2012-2013 and the timeline for each.
Every year, the board and the superintendent decide together what they would like to accomplish and work toward those goals as a team, Price said. He gave the members a rough draft of his set of goals a couple meetings ago, and they suggested a couple changes, which were added in time for Tuesday’s meeting.
The members wanted items be included about the superintendent continuing to provide oversight of a preventative maintenance program, and increased communication between the superintendent and the board of education.
Another addition was to support the three Marion County schools that are participating in the West Virginia Department of Education’s new evaluation policy, which is a pilot program this year, Price said.
During the meeting, the members also asked that two more items be placed on the list of goals, including working closely with all local media to enhance the board’s communication with the public and also meeting with students formally or informally to gain their views on the school environment, he said.
