MANNINGTON — A parade today honoring veterans past and present will stand as a tribute to one man’s son and others who have served the nation.
Ralph Suter Sr. said his son, Ralph, was a different man when he returned from Iraq where he served on the front lines in Baghdad. He said his son was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He was only 44 years old when he died July 23, 2007. Sgt. Suter was deployed to Baghdad in 2005 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His company was involved in the “thick of the fighting.”
The parade lineup starts at noon outside the senior center building on Flaggy Meadow Road, a block off the main drag near the Round Barn. The actual parade starts at around 1 p.m.
“He didn’t get to be in a parade, but that’s not what this is about,” Suter said. “It’s about honoring those veterans who have served our country. If anyone is a vet or is supportive, come and you can ride your car or motorcycle in this procession.
