FAIRMONT — Dozens of students gathered outside the county board of education offices in protest Friday morning.
Students began assembling shortly after 7 a.m. and their ranks continued to grow even after Superintendent of Schools Tom Deadrick asked them to leave.
Deadrick arrived at work at about 7:45 a.m. and walked into the board office, seeming to ignore the students gathered across the street. Less than 10 minutes later, Deadrick walked outside to ask the students to disperse, stating their behavior was not what he expected from students who were set to graduate in two months.
“What will you do if your employer does something you don’t like? Will you protest that, too?” Deadrick asked the assembled group. “Not one of you has asked for an appointment like an adult.”
