FAIRMONT —
“Unexpected” is one word to describe a day in the life of a paramedic.
Ross Peek has been a paramedic for the Marion County Rescue Squad since 2004 and works out of the main station in Fairmont.
He said his day starts at 7 a.m., and from there he’s not sure what he’ll encounter throughout his shift.
“I work 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday,” Peek said. “You never know what you’re going to get into.”
During his shift, Peek listens to emergency calls over the scanner, preparing for the time he has to pack up the ambulance and head out.
“It’s a waiting game,” he said.
