It’s the end of February — the least wonderful time of the year. Anything remotely novel and romantic about winter has become stale and overdone.
Fires in the fireplace? Done it.
Hot cocoa? Drunk it.
Snow? It’s all just dirty slush.
The wind whips tears from eyes and everyone is on their umpteenth cold of the season. Many are staring longingly at their backyard, wishing for a day when they can walk out the door and give the kids room to run.
But until February releases its grip on us, we’re stuck inside.
In order to get through it without going totally stir crazy, get off the couch and be creative. Here are some tips for weathering the last weeks of winter with kids:
• Join forces with friends and swap DVDs to get some new material. Turn your living room into a home theater complete with popcorn and candy and settle in for some Hollywood fun.
• Make dinner prep a family affair or just open some premade cookie dough and get baking.
• Many gymnastics studios offer open gym time. For a few bucks, kids can use the equipment to blow off steam where it’s warm and dry.
• Have a dance party — ideally at 5 p.m. when everyone is at their lowest point of the day. Crank some tunes and dance around the living room.
