FSU volleyball team falls in WVC opener


CHARLESTON — Fairmont State University’s volleyball team was eliminated in the opening round of the annual West Virginia Conference Tournament here Thursday by Davis & Elkins in straight sets.

The Senators posted 25-13, 25-18, 26-24 wins over FSU.

The loss ends the Falcons’ season with a record of 19-16.

Three FSU players received honors on the All-WVC volleyball team announced yesterday. Senior Micah Bell and redshirt freshman Meagan Gibson were both named to the league’s second-team unit, while junior Aushia Beavers garnered honorable mention accolades.

Gibson was also selected to the league’s six-member All-Freshman Team.

Gibson led FSU with 464 kills during the regular season. She also had 315 digs, 57 blocks and a team-high 39 serving aces. Bell was second on the team in kills with 327. She also had 208 digs and 51 blocks. Beavers ended up with 308 digs, 198 kills and 48 blocks.
