SOUTH CHARLESTON —
If any Marion County hoops fans made their way to South Charleston for the annual North-South All-Star Basketball Classic Friday, they caught a glimpse of the future.
Stevie Browning, a sharp-shooting guard from Logan and a Fairmont State University signee, scored 19 points as the South rolled to a 114-101 victory at the South Charleston Community Center.
Browing, part of Jerrod Calhoun’s buzzing-creating first recruiting class with the Falcons, added 12 rebounds and was 7 of 8 on free throws.
Woodrow Wilson’s Cameron Shannon added 19 points for the South, which hit nine 3-pointers and held a 59-49 halftime lead.
O.J. Peterson of Class AAA state champion Hedgesville paced the North with 23 points. Peterson also won the event’s slam dunk contest over Boo Lathon of Wheeling Park.
Fairmont Senior’s Van Jones added six points, 11 rebounds and one assist for the North. The Polar Bear senior standout shot 2 of 5 from the field and connected on both of his foul shot attempts.
The South leads the series 24-6 since the game resumed in 1983.
