FAIRMONT —
Perhaps it’s too obvious or maybe a bit too much of a cliche.
Still, after three seasons, it’s hard to fathom that none of junior nose guard Anthony Domico’s Fairmont State University teammates have saddled him with the perfect-fit nickname.
After all, when you find pleasure in burying opposing ball carriers and quarterbacks and your family runs a long-standing successful funeral home business in town, wouldn’t a moniker like “The Undertaker” seem appropriate?
“It kinda would,” said Domico with a smile. “But about the closest anyone has ever come to that is (FSU trainer) Bob Cable, who calls me digger.”
“I’ve always just called him Meeks or Da Meeks,” said FSU senior defensive end Jordan Greathouse. “Never thought about the other. It really doesn’t fit his personality though. He’s too nice.”
Call Domico whatever you want, but nowadays the most appropriate title would be a success. A so-called “project” player coming out of Fairmont Senior High School three years ago, Domico, under the tutelage of former FSU defensive line coach Mike Fortier, has developed a reputation for being one of the steadiest performers day in and day out for the Falcons.
