FAIRMONT — Sunday evening Glenville State let a double-digit lead slip away in the second half in a hard-fought 83-82 loss to Urbana University.
Monday night the Pioneers weren’t about to make the same mistake.
Glenville broke open a close game with pesky Maryland Bible College in the final 10 minutes and rolled to an 85-72 victory on the final day of the Global Science & Technology Fairmont State University Tip-Off Classic at the Joe Retton Arena.
The win improved the Pioneers to 1-1 on the year.
Glenville struggled a bit shooting the ball in the first half, but still held a 35-26 lead at the break. In the second half the Pioneers canned 14-of-27 field goals (51.9 percent) and in a span of just over four minutes pushed a five-point lead to 12 with 6:25 to play.
Glenville State was led by Jacob Miller’s 21 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 15 of his 21 points on five 3-point field goals.
The Pioneers also got 17 points from Aaron Dobson, 14 from Marcus Catney, 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds from Jonathan Bevins and 11 points from Dionyah Jordan.
Maryland Bible’s Ty Burns led all scorers with 32 points. The Eagles also got 21 points from Terry Hosley.

That’s because half of the lowly Pioneers’ four victories this season have come at the expense of the Falcons.
