FAIRMONT — Country Roads Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation has expanded to serve East Fairmont.
Co-owners Michael Barkley and Derek Falkenstein recently opened a second office for their business. The new facility, which opened in May, is located at 14 East Grafton Road, Suite A, behind Family Dollar.
Barkley is currently running the East Side office, and Falkenstein mainly operates the West Side location, which is on Watson Hill inside of Fairmont Fitness.
Falkenstein and Barkley both grew up in Fairmont and attended Fairmont Senior High School.
Falkenstein graduated from West Virginia University. He worked at Fairmont General Hospital for more than 10 years, serving as director of physical medicine, and then started his own practice — Country Roads Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation — in 2006.
Barkley got a degree in biology and health science from Fairmont State and went on to earn his master’s degree and doctorate from Wheeling Jesuit University.
Following graduation, he returned to his hometown to work for Fairmont General Hospital in the home health department. He then started his own company called Hometown Rehab and contracted out his services from 2004 until March of this year, when he joined Falkenstein at Country Roads Physical Therapy.
Falkenstein’s business and his vision had grown rapidly, Barkley said. So when Falkenstein asked Barkley to be part of the business, he jumped at the opportunity.
Barkley and Falkenstein opened the East Side location because they felt that area was underserved. The new facility is more accessible to the people of East Side and allows Country Roads Physical Therapy to serve all of Fairmont, Barkley said.
“We’re doing really well,” he said of the new location.
Barkley said Country Roads Physical Therapy is a full-service clinic that does a lot of hands-on, one-on-one therapy with patients.
“We take a wide variety of clients,” he said.
The clinic focuses on the individual client during his or her 45 minutes to an hour of therapy. Physical therapy assistant Aimee Pigott, who also has a degree in athletic training, and receptionist Traci Cotton are part of the staff of the new office.
“We’re very family-oriented,” Barkley said. “It’s more of a homey, relaxed environment. What we’re doing is working with people, and people are responding to it.
“We’re overjoyed to be in East Fairmont,” he added. “We’re from Fairmont, and we really want to service all the county.”
