FAIRMONT — Lawrence “Scooter” Brooks said cars are his passion, and he doesn’t want to do anything else for a living.
His new business in downtown Fairmont, called Super Sudz, offers hand car wash and detailing services. Customers can stop by to get their vehicle washed and vacuumed for an affordable price.
In addition to full detail service and hand washing, Super Sudz does pressure washing. Brooks can pressure wash homes, decks, driveways and commercial and business facilities, and he has a mobile unit that he uses.
Brooks, who has been a professional detailer for some time, got his business license in February. The building at 100 Madison St. required “a lot of repairs,” and he worked nonstop for about two months to get it ready for business.
“I had to remodel the whole interior,” he said. “The interior was completely flooded.”
Super Sudz was “operating and ready to go” by the beginning of May, and Brooks held a grand opening celebration last weekend.
Brooks, who now lives in Fairmont, was born and raised in Grant Town. He’s been in the car and detailing business for almost 24 years.
“That’s what I love to do,” he said. “It’s been my passion forever. This is what I know how to do.”
He got started in the industry after graduating from high school and worked at various dealerships over the years. Brooks said he used to clean cars for NASCAR’s Rick Hendrick.
“This is my first car wash,” he said. “I said when I turned 40 I wanted to own my own business, and I turned 40 in April.”
Brooks is happy with the way business is going so far. He has picked up several local companies as clients.
“Everybody that I’ve got accounts with is pleased, so it’s working,” he said.
Super Sudz is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 304-363-4554.
