Professional baseball is on its way to North Central West Virginia.
The Washington Wild Things, a Frontier League baseball team in Washington, Pa., have entered into an agreement with Genesis Partners to bring baseball to Charles Pointe in Bridgeport in 2014.
Christine Blaine, spokeswoman for the Wild Things, said she’s not sure what the team name or mascot will be yet because what’s in a name is actually a pretty big question.
When the Wild Things were created in 2001 and a lot of thought, research and planning went into the name, Blaine said. They began with the geographic area and moved on from there. By the time the Washington Wild Things took the field, the merchandising companies were impressed with their sales.
“We had done so well that our merchandising sales were approaching major league merchandising sales,” she said.
At this time, the Wild Things staff are focusing on their season, which is just beginning, and finding people from North Central West Virginia to become partners.
Blaine said the four owners of the Wild Things are very interested in finding local partners to make sure the new team has West Virginia flavor.
