FAIRMONT —
Fairmont General Hospital is working on a partnership with West Virginia United Health System.
According to its website, WVUHS is the largest health system in the state, and includes Morgantown’s Ruby Memorial Hospital, Clarksburg’s United Hospital Center, CamdenClark Hospital in Parkersburg, City Hospital in Martinsburg, and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.
In December, Robert C. Marquardt, CEO of Fairmont General Hospital, announced FGH was looking for a “strategic partner” to make the future happen faster.
Today, FGH announced its board of directors had entered into a 60-day negotiation period with WVUHS.
The reasons for choosing WVUHS are fairly simple ones, Marquardt said.
“There’s a strong philosophical agreement between their board and ours to keep Fairmont General a community hospital,” he said. “WVUHS might come closest to meeting our needs. Our board’s desire is the preservation of FGH as a full service community hospital in this location. This partnership has the potential to make sense.”
