Council approves deal with Allied Waste

Current base rate frozen for FY 2010; 50-cent hike next year

FAIRMONT — For at least another two years beginning June 1, Allied Waste Services will be the sole residential sanitation service provider in Fairmont city limits. “We’ve been in Fairmont quite a while, and we look forward to staying,” Allied Waste general manager Jeff Harvey said.

Council members approved a two-year contract deal with the longtime local company Tuesday at a base rate that City Manager Jim Snider said is less than that of surrounding cities.

“Our cost will still be less than Morgantown, Clarksburg and Bridgeport,” he said.
