Construction crews have started digging into the earth for the new Gateway Connector highway from downtown Fairmont to Interstate 79. Workers with Mountaineer Contractors Inc. are preparing to move some water lines near Merchant Street and the High Level Bridge, and also to install drainage lines, a company official said.
