Aretha Kees of Fairmont gets a smile from U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd as she tells him she and her two brothers were also high school valedictorians. Kees, a retired Child Protective Services worker, and her husband Tom were among 220 people who lined up Wednesday evening to get Byrd to sign their copies of his latest book: “Letter to a New President.” The book-signing event at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Granville lasted two hours.
